Too funny, right? Although I’m starting to think that maybe seven year-olds DO know everything. My son totally has a point. If I wrote something people really wanted to read, then I’d sell a lot of books. I just can’t figure out what that ‘something’ is.

From Mom, I think I was reading a Russian themed novel at the time. I liked the name Tanya. It was unique, mysterious, and would stand out in a crowd ( at least in the nursery) not like all the other kids named, Bev, Jane,Dorothy etc. I wanted my beautiful, blue eyed, blond haired,( towhead)….I always wondered where that monikers came from? Maybe you figured it out. I also spelled it with an A not O. Tonya, somehow I could hear how that could sound with a nasal midwestern accent. And what would the kids at school nickname you? TON? So I went with the flowing Tanya. PS I know at times you wished you had a nick name but somehow think you wouldn’t have liked that!

Lionel Shriver is an intense, writer’s writer, for sure.
